Million Dollar Mistake, by Meg Lacey

Hello, thanks for asking me to be a guest today.

I’m Meg Lacey and I’ve recently released two new novels, “Million Dollar Mistake, “from Samhain Publishing,  and “The Sparrow and The Hawk,” from Imajinn Books.  In both of these books a relationship is a key element.  One is a steamy romantic comedy and one is a paranormal romance, sort of.  I’d like to tell you more about “Million Dollar Mistake.”

I love writing about relationships.  Relationships that aren’t smooth sailing, but are as messy as my creative process.  And it’s essential that one element of the relationship is a sense of humor.  I think the only recourse we humans have is to view life with a quirky grain of salt.  Life can be very funny depending on your point of view.

For example, take one of my recent episodes.  I was climbing down to inspect tide pools when I slipped on a wet rock. Now this could be serious.  However, if I slip on a rock, then in slow motion try to catch my balance as I totter from wet rock to slippery rock and eventually collapse on my nose in the sand that can be amusing.  At least it was to my daughter, Sara.  After asking if I was okay, Sara then collapsed in hysterics on the beach.  After she explained my staggering trajectory in vivid detail, I cracked up too.  It’s this type of perspective I try to bring to all of my writing.

I had so much fun writing Million Dollar Mistake.  Let me tell you more about it.

Taking care of business may cost him his heart.

In addition to overseeing the financial affairs of the wealthy Kristoff family, Nicholas Demetrious specializes in hauling its rambunctious members out of trouble. Especially his distant cousin, Raven Rutledge.

The tabloids love her bad-girl antics, sexy pout, and body made for sin. Nicholas would love to spank the bejesus out of her, but this time the situation is too serious to entertain such a fantasy. A lucrative business deal with the Exeters is in jeopardy, and Jackson Exeter Sr.’s ultimatum is clear: Remove this man-eater from my country house, or the deal is off.

Raven is in way over her head. She accepted the invitation to the Exeter’s Adirondack house party as a refreshing change from her jet-setting lifestyle—until she learns the guest list includes his entire family. His ex-girlfriend. And the junior Exeter’s intention to propose.

If ever she needed suave, sophisticated Nicholas’s persuasive powers, it’s now. Then he’s there with a plan to get her out of this tangle: sweep her off her feet. But their pretend passion turns all too real. And what started out as a weekend of fun threatens to shatter into betrayal and heartbreak.

Warning: Contains a tabloid sweetheart who loves to be bad, a sexy hero with little patience for mind games, and a game of strip pool that will make you rethink your weekend plans.

The Sparrow and The Hawk, by Meg Lacey

My daughter, Jes, and I were planning a road trip for the beginning of August so we could drive son-in-law’s new car to their home in San Diego, CA. Then. July 3, 1:30 am, we got a call from a hospital in SD, my daughter, Sara, had an emergency C-section and the baby was 9 weeks early. Panic Ensued. My Navy son-in-law was not in SD and needed an emergency flight back, while my daughter needed help with  her other two children while she was in the hospital. Jes and I rearranged our plans and hit the road three weeks ahead of schedule. We still made it a fun trip, going to Colorado first, then the Grand Canyon, and finally arrived in SD exhausted but happy.  We met Sylvie Joy in the NICU at Balboa Hospital.  She was 3lbs. 4 oz. and a fighter.  Within two weeks she was out of the incubator and in a crib and after 5 weeks was allowed to go home.  We were all thrilled.  I am so awed by the skill and decication of the nurses and doctors in Neo-natal Care.  It was thanks to them and to Sara who spent all day with her baby that Sylvie did so well.  And, I got to bond again with Jes.  Sometimes the most unexpected events end up the best.

The Sparrow and The Hawk… set in New Mexico, Arizona, and San Diego.
Saving the world from evil and chaos is hard, but falling in love is even harder.

Jillie Harte, the Sparrow, a film maker, is an agent for NAS (Normal, Abnormal, Strange) Agency. She must find The Carmaletta Choker before it destroys the world.

Griff Ryland, aka the Hawk, Jillie’s new cameraman, needs to retrieve the choker. As a shapeshifter, he feels certain of success.  But he doesn’t bargain for a sassy, sexy redhead—and for his urge to settle their differences in bed.

Excerpt:  The Sparrow and The Hawk

Jillie did another visual sweep of the lobby and met the gaze of a red-hot guy across the room. Jillie held her breath as the serious eye-yum moved toward her. The guy didn’t walk as much as he swaggered in that cocky, loose-limbed and fluid way that some great-looking men have programmed into their bones. He was tall and lean, with wheat-blond hair sporting a hint of a wave that fell almost to his shoulders, brilliant blue eyes, chiseled cheekbones and a strong jawbone. Still holding her gaze, the man smiled. His teeth were so strong and white that Jillie was tempted to reach for her sunglasses. He looked like a cover model for a man’s Western cologne. All he needed was a wild horse between his thighs, a wilder woman hanging onto him as if she’d never let him go, and a pulsating soundtrack.
His smile broadened as he came close. “Hey,” he said.
Jillie glanced over her shoulder to see whom he was addressing.
            “Hey,” he said again.
Redirecting her gaze, Jillie was surprised to find him standing directly in front of her. Given her recent image of him on a horse, his “hey” sounded appropriate.
“Hey, there.” His voice was deep and a bit raspy, intimate enough to make Jillie think of hot, sweaty sex.
She frowned, wishing she could shut her eyes. Her nose started itching. Maybe she was allergic to so much male beauty.  His grin moved up a notch to more-blinding-than-the noonday-summer-sun. Jillie blinked. “You must really have a great dentist.”
The guy looked confused for a moment. “Huh?”
“Forget it. Just a joke.”
“Oh.” He hooked a thumb in his belt. “Are you Jillian Harte? I’m Griff Ryland.”
            “Uh-huh.”
            “You know. Griff Ryland.”
Words formed in her mind as she felt the full power of his blue eyes, but given his questioning look, she didn’t think her verbal answer came out well.  She tried again, taking care to form each syllable. “No. I don’t know any Griff Ryland.”
He shrugged, “We’ve never met personally.  I thought Kenny might have said something, since I’ve already heard a lot about you.”
Jillie tilted her head, wondering where this was leading.  “I know Kenny Podansky. He works with me.”
“Not on this project. You get me instead.”
“Can I do anything I want with you?”
