Nutra Bullet

So I went shopping this week and came home with a Nutra Bullet (ie blender). I already had a Ninja-something-or-other, but I became obsessed with the info commercials spiel.

It sounded like an easy way to lose weight. Something not easily done when my day is spent sitting in front of a computer from 6 am to 10 pm.

The blender pulverizes vegetables and fruits into a smoothie and you just drink. Great plan, not such great results.

DO NOT let anyone fool you into believing these things taste great, good or even okay. Veggies and fruit wasn't meant to be drunk.

I experimented with a dozen of their recipes, all in one day. Nothing came close to being liked.

On to the good news.

The machine DOES pulverize everything very well. I couldn't believe how well it turned raw carrots into a slush.

So while the machine went back into the box and into the closet, I'm thinking it will be perfect to whip veggies for soups.

Casino Gambling - Grand Biloxi

I went to Biloxi, Mississippi this past week. Took my son to celebrate his 21th birthday. He's been dragged to casinos since he was a toddler. In those days, (before Hurricane Katrina) when the Grand Casino was on the water, he spent a lot of time in their Kid's Quest day care. He still got a taste of the gaming atmosphere as we passed through the casino to take him to the Buffet for meals. So he was really excited this time when he could sit down and play the machines, instead of being ushered past them. We hit all the casinos and I'm happy to say after three days, we both came back winners. Not the fortune we'd like, but it's a big win any time you leave a casino with more money than you started with.

What are Aura Readings?, by Thomas Carlyle

Aura Readings are meant to look at a person’s spiritual energy system, as demonstrated through the seven layers of one’s aura. Along with colors, the reader doing aura readings sees memory pictures, symbolic images, spiritual beings and energy belonging to others such as family and friends. The readings help identify and release blocks. They also help get in touch with one’ own energy, to help the individual know the truth and make the best possible choices.

The reader who does aura readings looks for what is the person’s energy, and what is not is energy! In every layer of one’ aura, the reader identifies different colors that represent energies from close quarters. The readings help release all those energies which are completely unwarranted and uncalled for.

Clairvoyant Readings are meant to help find a fresh perspective to things and give a new direction to life. The readings help reset goals and redevelop psychic strategies. They help infuse a new zeal into life, giving it a new approach altogether. They help rebuild confidence which may have devastated through setbacks in life.

Clairvoyant Readings are categorically meant to bring about radical changes into one’s life. They may not be of any help in building massive wealth, but are definitely the final resort to amass spiritual wealth which ultimately is the real source of pleasure.

Aura readings help the reader sense who you really are. The reader gets to find out where you come from, and what path you wish to choose to grow as a spirit. They help look into pat experiences that have affected you. They help get insights into steps you may wish to take in the future.

At times the readings help make sense of what is happening around you, at times they may seem to be thoroughly meaningless and a waste of time. Some of the best aura related look-ins include healing, empowering and supporting in seeking answers.

Clairvoyant Studies help seek spirituality. They help understand reasons behind pain, suffering, frustration etc. and the ill-effects they have on one’s metabolism, cardiovascular and pulmonary health.

The studies help know that both setbacks and successes are a part of the game everyone play in life, and by no means should be taken seriously. Rather, they should be observed with a sense of supreme detachment.

There is one common thing that goes with both forms of readings, however different they actually might be in nature. They teach that wealth is not the real source of happiness. When the earnings increase, the greed too increases along with it. Negative feelings grow within the system, and one always remains dissatisfied with what one has in the present.

Another virtue that both propagate is that the present is meant to be enjoyed to the fullest. It is no use fretting about the past for it cannot be undone or overturned and no use pondering too much about the future for it remains unseen. The day being thought about may never dawn on you. The ultimate service however, remains the one done for your fellow men.

Do You Feel Foolish?

I decided the way to avoid feeling foolish on April Fool's Day was to be empowered by knowledge - no joke. Okay, I didn't spend hours researching the subject in the library; but I did google it.

Supposedly this day of duping family and friends started in France in 1564 - which explains why their fries make jokes of our waistlines.

Anyway, France was the first nation to adopt the reformed calendar, but some citizens resisted. They wanted New Year's Day to remain on April 1st and on every April 1st they were victimized by pranksters and referred to as "poisson d'Avril" - April fish. Why fish? Maybe this is a google fish story.

Nevertheless, by the 18th century the custom of playing pranks on April 1st had spread to England and then to Scotland, where an April fool is known as an April "gowk" - cuckoo. No, that's a translation - not a comment on my research.

My mother was an enthusiastic "hunter of the gowk" -player of April fools. She put liver in the bottom of our beds for our bare feet to discover and hid our clothes. Then there were her cotton-filled muffins and her penny-stuffed burgers, which were worth every cent.

I tried to carry on the family tradition of putting pennies into burger patties; but I didn't want to risk my family turning into male chauvinist, piggy banks. I wrapped the pennies in foil and was the first to discover biting foil isn't funny. Announcing French toast for breakfast and serving cold toast on top of a French dictionary was much more successful.

This year the reformed calendar is making me gowk. The day of foolery falls on Sunday. This eliminates all job and school-related pranks.

The first day of the month is allowance day; but if I postpone it, I'll be the poisson d'Avril because both sons owe me money.

Maybe I'll let my family fool itself. When my husband and the boys help with Sunday dinner preparations, they could be helping with Monday's dinner. At the last minute I could April Fool them with dinner out.

Hey, there's no rule that pranks can't be pleasant. Wouldn't you be pleased if a crow flew by, squawked April Fool and reclaimed its feet from the corner of your eyes? Or even better - how about finally getting to the end of your tax form and finding the words April Fool.

Guilty Pleasures - The Everyday Kind

While there may be books titled Guilty Pleasures. There are also real guilty pleasures we all have. I can't say I actually feel guilty after the fact, but the pressures of those little things we do to make ourselves feel good, does come back to haunt us.

Most of us probably can rattle off at least a half dozen or more guilty pleasures, but I'll narrow mine down to the top three.

  • Chocolate candy - Put it in front of me and I eat it.
Guilt level depends on if I'm going through a period of Gerd and it makes me bloat to the point I'm in pain. Or, I'm on a diet, and then any candy should be a no-no.

  • Groceries - I like to buy them, I mean get more then I need, more than necessary.
Guilt is spending money on things that might go to waste. Really, how many of those different vegetables will I eat before they spoil and have to be thrown away.

  • Television - I have 6 TV's in my house. 2 of them are in my bedroom and 2 of them in my home office.

Guilt - Watching too much when I have so much work to do.

What's your everyday kind of guilty pleasures?

Bundled Services

I received an offer in the mail today
about bundling my phone, Internet, and TV package all together. I read the letter three times trying to figure out what the benefit would be to me. They claim it makes it convenient for me to pay my bill for all, and only one place to call if I have trouble. I thought about it more, wondering why I would want to change having three small bills into having one big bill. It's not as if they're aren't offering me a discount. What if I'm short on money when the big bill comes? Will they turn off all three services if I don't pay it all. Probably. Ultimately, I decided it was best to stay unbundled.  Money's tight.I might be willing to let the TV go, but not the Internet.
