Halloween Websites 2016

So the same old story I tell every year as I update the list of sites:
     I was born on Halloween, so I naturally favor that day. My birthday parties always had fun Halloween related activities like dunking for apples and carving jack o'lanterns. And every wore a costume. I was ALWAYS a witch, or at least as far back as I can remember. But I'm sure my mother dressed me in other costumes when I was very little. On my 18th birthday, I ended my days of trick-or-treating with one last outing. After that, I was the one at the door greeting the ghouls and goblins and witches.

I still love Halloween and I love to see what everyone else is doing for decorations. Pinterest has been one of my go to sites for inspiration. But I also visit a lot of other Halloween oriented sites. If yours isn't on my list, feel free to add it in the comment box so I can visit.

Pumpkin Shaped BBQ Pork Appetizer Snack Sandwiches

Pumpkin Shaped BBQ Pork Appetizer Snack Sandwiches

Great for a Halloween Party or an Autumn gathering.

There's not a special recipe for this appetizer treat. I made French bread dough in a bread machine, adding orange foor coloring to give it a rich pumpkin orange color. Then shaped the dough into balls about 2" and lined them on a cookie sheet and flattened slightly. Then I let covered them with a dish towel and let rise in a warm place for 1-1/2 hours. After which I baked for about 15 minutes. Once cooled, I sliced off tops for lids, made a small hole in middle to poke in a piece of dill pickle for a stem. I removed the interior soft bread, stuffed with our favorite barbequed pork and served.

Poem: HALLOWE'EN, by A.F. Murray

HALLOWE'EN

A gypsy flame is on the hearth,
Sign of this carnival of mirth.
Through the dun fields and from the glade
Flash merry folk in masquerade—
It is the witching Hallowe'en.

Pale tapers glimmer in the sky,
The dead and dying leaves go by;
Dimly across the faded green
Strange shadows, stranger shades, are seen—
It is the mystic Hallowe'en.

Soft gusts of love and memory
Beat at the heart reproachfully;
The lights that burn for those who die
Were flickering low, let them flare high—
It is the haunting Hallowe'en.
